One of the most anticipated rivalries in middleweight history went down in May with Sean Strickland pulling off a huge upset of then Champion Khamzat Chimaev. The fight however did not see the end of the feud. Strickland has been known to voice what he thinks on the mic and has given UFC fans some of the most memorable moments in press conferences. Recetnly Sean has been in a pay battle with the UFC and even says his heart is no longer in the sport and wants to dive into boxing. Gabriel Almeida submitted Gilbert Burns with a first-round heel hook at UFC BJJ 12 in Las Vegas, handing Burns his first defeat under the UFC BJJ banner. Burns shot for an early takedown and escaped a guillotine attempt but could do little from top position, before Almeida worked to the top, hunted the neck and transitioned to the leg for the finish. Burns had won his UFC BJJ debut in June with a rear-naked choke over Horlando Monteiro and came in less than a month after a tech fall loss to Khamzat Chimaev under wrestling rules at RAF.

Sean Strickland reportedly signed a new six-fight UFC contract before defeating Khamzat Chimaev for the middleweight championship. The report comes amid Strickland’s public frustration with fighter pay and unresolved negotiations for a title defense against Nassourdine Imavov. The UFC has not publicly confirmed the contract’s length or financial terms, so the report remains attributed rather than official. If accurate, the agreement could limit Strickland’s ability to leave the promotion while negotiations over his next defense continue. No title-fight agreement with Imavov had been finalized in the reported update.

Colby Covington says he is not pleased that his Real American Freestyle cruiserweight crossover title defense against Khamzat Chimaev will take place in Abu Dhabi on November 14. Covington, who won the belt by beating Arman Tsarukyan in July and defended it against Belal Muhammad, argued that the American-based promotion should keep its champion's bouts on U.S. soil. He also accused Chimaev of caring more about cash grabs than the growth of the company.
