UFC Unveils Algorithmic Ranking System to Replace Media Voting

The UFC has introduced a new performance-based ranking system that eliminates media voter panels entirely. Wins and the quality of opposition account for 95% of a fighter's ranking, with finish bonuses providing a small additional boost and inactivity penalties kicking in after 18 months without a fight. Victory value decays over five years and becomes obsolete after ten, while fighters competing across multiple weight classes will carry separate divisional rankings. The new system also removes the pound-for-pound rankings and expands rankings beyond the traditional top 15, though the legacy media-voted rankings will run alongside the new system during the transition period.
