Dustin Poirier suggests UFC should book Tsarukyan vs Gamrot rematch

Dustin Poirier has publicly called on the UFC to book a rematch between lightweight contenders Arman Tsarukyan and Mateusz Gamrot, adding his voice to what would be a compelling divisional matchup if the promotion were to act on the suggestion.

Poirier, 37, knows the lightweight division as well as anyone. The American Top Team veteran carries a 30-10-0 record and has built his reputation on high-output striking, averaging 5.24 significant strikes per minute at 50 percent accuracy across his career. A southpaw standing 175 cm tall with a 183 cm reach, the Louisiana native has long been one of the most decorated fighters at 155 pounds.

Tsarukyan sits at number one in the lightweight rankings with a 23-3-0 record, making the 29-year-old Russian one of the division's most prominent figures. He averages 3.85 significant strikes per minute and adds 3.26 takedowns per 15 minutes, presenting a well-rounded threat on the feet and on the mat.

Gamrot, ranked tenth at lightweight, brings an even more wrestling-heavy approach to the cage. The 35-year-old Pole holds a 26-4-0 record and leads the division in takedown volume, averaging a remarkable 5.15 takedowns per 15 minutes. His 51 percent striking accuracy shows he is equally composed on the feet when needed.

The two fighters share a history, and Poirier clearly believes that history warrants another chapter. No official announcement from the UFC has followed his remarks.
