The UFC lightweight champion has been vocal about the region's urban development issues, which include poorly built residential complexes constructed too close together, numerous unauthorized buildings, and overall urban planning disasters. Seventeen days ago, during flooding in Dagestan, Makhachev appealed to regional leadership to address construction issues, stating that Makhachkala has turned into 'one chaotic construction site.' Recently, he reposted content from geographer and school teacher Dmitry Koryukhin, who shared aerial photographs of Makhachkala showcasing what he called an 'urban catastrophe.' The post notes this is part of a broader Russian issue, with massive residential complexes being built across the country despite stagnant or declining populations in many cities.
