Islam Makhachev highlights urban development problems in Dagestan amid flooding

Islam Makhachev has once again drawn attention to what he describes as chaotic construction issues in Dagestan, particularly in Makhachala. He has called on regional leadership to address rampant building problems, describing the capital as having turned into 'one chaotic construction site.' This appeal came 17 days ago as severe flooding was already affecting Dagestan. Recently, Makhachev reposted content from geography teacher Dmitry Koryukhin, who works in Dagestan and was named Teacher of the Year in 2025. Koryukhin shared aerial photographs of Makhachkala showing what he described as an urban planning disaster, with low-quality residential complexes built closely together, numerous unauthorized constructions, and high-rise buildings being erected despite stagnant or declining populations in many Russian cities. The post praises Makhachev for recognizing and highlighting these infrastructure and development issues.
