Islam Makhachev highlights construction problems in Dagestan amid flooding

Islam Makhachev has once again drawn attention to what he calls the "chaotic construction" problem in Dagestan, particularly in Makhachkala. Seventeen days ago, as flooding was already affecting the region, Makhachev called on regional leadership to address construction issues, stating that Makhachkala has become "one chaotic construction site." Today, he reposted content from geographer Dmitry Koryukhin, a school teacher in Dagestan who won Teacher of the Year in 2025, showing aerial photographs of Makhachkala that illustrate what Koryukhin described as an urban catastrophe. The post notes that the problem extends beyond Dagestan to much of Russia, where massive residential complexes are being built despite stagnant or declining populations in many cities.
