UFC heavyweight newcomer and Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson, who trains under Jon Jones, faced sexual assault allegations in 2019 while on the U.S. wrestling team. On June 15, 2019, Steveson and a teammate were arrested and accused of gang rape involving a foreign object after a woman reported the incident at a hospital. The case had very little public information available, but charges were ultimately dropped due to a legal loophole that prevented the victim's testimony from being admissible because she had voluntarily consumed alcohol the evening of the alleged incident. There were no witnesses besides the victim and the two wrestlers, and their accounts contradicted each other. While there was no direct proof of Steveson's guilt, the law was changed specifically after this case to ensure victim testimony is now considered under any circumstances.
