Mike Tyson discussed the terrible food he ate during three years in prison, describing it as pure sugar and chemicals. Speaking with Robert Kennedy Jr., Tyson explained that the Federal Prison System spends only 60 cents per day on inmate food, which buys only processed items, chips, donuts, and sugar. He stated the healthiest option was oversalted impure soup. Tyson believes this poor nutrition makes prisoners more violent and aggressive, causing them to attack each other over minor incidents. Kennedy cited research showing that improving prison food quality reduces violence by 50% and disciplinary measures in juvenile facilities by 70%. Tyson credited his mentor Cus D'Amato with teaching him proper nutrition, contrasting it with the unhealthy eating in his childhood neighborhood.
