Aspinall stated that the UFC has notified him that his next bout will be against the winner of the Alex Pereira versus Ciryl Gane fight. UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall confirmed on his YouTube channel that an eye injury is on the mend and that he expects official medical clearance to resume full-contact training soon. He also revealed that the UFC has told him his next title defense will come against whoever wins the upcoming fight between Alex Pereira and Ciryl Gane.

Aspinall, 33, carries a 15-3 record and holds the UFC heavyweight title while ranking sixth in the pound-for-pound standings. The Englishman, who trains out of Team Kaobon, stands six-foot-five with a 78-inch reach and produces a remarkable 7.63 significant strikes per minute at 67 percent accuracy — figures that rank among the most efficient in the division. He averages 2.62 takedowns per 15 minutes as well, making him a threat in every phase.

Standing across from him, eventually, will be either Pereira or Gane. Pereira, known as Poatan, is the current UFC light heavyweight champion moving up to challenge for a second title. The 38-year-old Brazilian is 13-4 and lands 5.16 significant strikes per minute at 62 percent accuracy, relying almost exclusively on his striking with just 0.11 takedowns per 15 minutes. Gane, the number-two-ranked heavyweight at 14-2, brings a different look. The 36-year-old Frenchman out of MMA Factory stands six-foot-four with an 81-inch reach — the longest of the three — and blends precise output at 61 percent accuracy with fluid movement that has long made him one of the most technically sophisticated heavyweights in the world.

Aspinall made clear he is content to wait, saying both men should fight, recover fully, and then all parties can move forward when ready.

Why it matters

  • Aspinall's title picture now has a defined path after uncertainty caused by the eye injury
  • A Pereira win would be a historic two-division championship consolidation heading into a heavyweight title fight
  • Gane, the top-ranked contender, would be making his second run at the belt
  • The matchup pits Aspinall's elite all-around game against a knockout artist or a technical striker, offering a sharp stylistic contrast either way
