Eighteen-year-old Demid Volkov from Vyritsa claimed the Russian junior MMA championship in the under-93 kg division. In March, Volkov became the Russian Combat Sambo champion in the under-88 kg category, making him one of the youngest champions in the discipline's history. Volkov trains under Alexander Korshunov and spars with Denis Goltsov, Moknatkin, and Khadis Ibragimov. In the final, he defeated Platon Lebedev, 17, by controlling the clinch and executing throws.
Eighteen-year-old Demid Volkov from Vyritsa has claimed the Russian junior MMA championship in the under-93 kg division, adding a second national title to an already remarkable early career.
Volkov, who trains under coach Alexander Korshunov, secured the gold medal in the final by controlling the clinch against 17-year-old Platon Lebedev and executing decisive throws to earn the victory. The win came just months after Volkov captured the Russian Combat Sambo championship in the under-88 kg category in March, a double that places him among the youngest fighters to hold titles in both disciplines.

Part of Volkov's development has come through sparring with established professional fighters, including Khadis Ibragimov, a 31-year-old Russian professional competing at six-foot-three and 191 cm with a 78-inch reach. Ibragimov holds a professional record of 8-4-0 and trains out of Sambo Piter, bringing high-level experience to the gym environment. Volkov also spars with Denis Goltsov and Moknatkin, giving him regular exposure to seasoned competition well above his age group.
Why it matters
- Volkov holds national titles in two separate disciplines before his 19th birthday, a rare achievement in Russian combat sports
- His training partners include active professional MMA fighters, suggesting an accelerated development path
- Winning both sambo and MMA junior titles signals genuine multi-discipline credentials heading into a potential professional career
