Four years after it happened, the light heavyweight title fight between Jiri Prochazka and Glover Teixeira at UFC 275 remains one of the most dramatic championship bouts the division has ever produced. Prochazka survived a grueling mid-fight crisis to stop Teixeira in the fifth round and claim the 205-pound title.

Prochazka, now 33 years old and ranked second in the light heavyweight division, carried the kind of offensive firepower that made him a threat in any exchange. The Czech fighter out of Jetsaam Gym Brno stands six-foot-three with an 80-inch reach and lands 5.69 significant strikes per minute at a 55 percent accuracy rate — numbers that reflect both his volume and his precision. His record stands at 32-6-1.

Teixeira, the Brazilian veteran now carrying a 33-9-0 record at age 46, presented a very different challenge. Standing six-foot-two with a 76-inch reach, Teixeira built his championship-level career on relentless pressure and a suffocating grappling game. His 2.11 takedowns per 15 minutes and 0.9 submission attempts per 15 minutes made him one of the most dangerous grapplers in the division, and he leaned on those tools heavily in the middle rounds of that contest to dictate the pace and put Prochazka in serious danger.

Why it matters

  • The finish cemented Prochazka as a legitimate elite-level light heavyweight despite entering as the younger, less-tested fighter
  • Teixeira's grappling dominance in the middle rounds showed how closely the fight was contested before the stunning conclusion
  • The bout set a high-water mark for drama in the 205-pound division that subsequent title fights have been measured against
  • Prochazka's current ranking at number two in the division means the legacy of that night still shapes how the light heavyweight landscape is understood today
