Quick read

Sean O'Malley has not won by knockout since capturing the bantamweight title against Aljamain Sterling in 2023, with his only other recent stoppage coming against Raolian Paiva in 2021. O'Malley says a spectacular finish is the clearest path back into title contention and insists he must knock out his upcoming Canadian opponent on the White House lawn.

Sean O'Malley is calling his shot ahead of his upcoming bantamweight bout, stating publicly that a knockout finish against Aiemann Zahabi — on the White House lawn, no less — is the clearest route back to title contention.

O'Malley, known as "Suga," carries a 20-3-0 record and sits fourth in the bantamweight rankings at 31 years old. The Montana native fights out of MMA Lab and presents a physically imposing frame for the division at five-foot-eleven with a 72-inch reach. His striking numbers back up his reputation: he lands 6.05 significant strikes per minute at a 60 percent accuracy rate, among the sharpest outputs in the division. His last knockout victory came when he dethroned Aljamain Sterling for the bantamweight title in 2023, with his only other recent stoppage dating back to a finish of Raolian Paiva in 2021. O'Malley has indicated that a spectacular finish is the most convincing statement he can make to force his way back into championship conversations.

Standing across from him will be Aiemann Zahabi, the 38-year-old Canadian out of the renowned Tristar Gym in Montreal. Zahabi holds a 14-3-0 record and is ranked 14th in the bantamweight division. He stands five-foot-eight with a 68-inch reach and fights out of an orthodox stance. A volume striker in his own right, Zahabi lands 4.54 significant strikes per minute at 47 percent accuracy, though his grappling output is minimal, averaging just 0.12 takedowns per 15 minutes with no recorded submission attempts.

Why it matters

  • O'Malley's fourth-place ranking means a dominant finish could push him directly back into title contention
  • The 10-year age gap and significant size advantage favor O'Malley, but Zahabi's Tristar pedigree makes him a credible test
  • Zahabi's orthodox, striker-forward style sets up a pure stand-up battle that plays into the narrative O'Malley is building around the fight
