Andre Lima has delivered a scathing assessment of Kevin Borjas following his loss, accusing Borjas of running for ten minutes and spending the other five resting on the canvas. Lima suggested Borjas may have bet against himself and admitted frustration at losing to someone he considers a poor fighter. Lima then announced he is moving down to bantamweight.

Andre Lima, the Brazilian prospect known as "Mascote," has gone on the attack following his loss to Kevin Borjas, delivering a withering post-fight critique of his opponent before announcing he will be dropping down to bantamweight.

Lima, 27, entered the fight carrying an 11-1-0 record and had been one of the more impressive fighters on his regional circuit. Fighting out of Team Lucas Mineiro, the five-foot-seven orthodox striker lands nearly four significant strikes per minute at a sharp 56 percent accuracy rate, and also mixes in takedowns and submission attempts at a respectable clip. The loss to Borjas now sits as the lone blemish on an otherwise clean record.

Borjas, nicknamed "El Gallo Negro" and representing Peru's Pitbull Martial Arts Center, improved to 11-5-0 with the victory. The 28-year-old orthodox fighter stands five-foot-five with a 68-inch reach and lands 3.87 significant strikes per minute, though his 42 percent accuracy tells a different story about how those exchanges tend to unfold. He records no takedowns and no submission attempts per 15 minutes, making him a purely stand-up fighter.

Lima pulled no punches in his assessment. He accused Borjas of spending ten minutes running and the remaining five resting on the canvas, stopping short of outright accusing him of deliberately losing but suggesting Borjas may have bet against himself. Lima made clear he does not respect Borjas as a fighter, which made swallowing the defeat all the more difficult.

Why it matters

  • Lima's move to bantamweight reshapes his trajectory and could open doors against a deeper, more competitive pool of opponents.
  • The fraud allegation, even if implied rather than stated directly, is a serious charge that could draw scrutiny from athletic commissions.
  • Borjas, now 11-5, may face questions about his performance regardless of the outcome of any investigation.
