UFC Overhauls Ranking System, Drops Media Voting

Quick read

UFC has unveiled a new algorithmic ranking system that replaces the long-standing media panel vote. Under the new model, wins and the quality of opposition account for 95 percent of a fighter's ranking, early finishes provide a small bonus boost, and inactivity penalties kick in after 18 months without a fight. The value of a win begins to decay after five years and is fully retired after ten, while fighters competing across multiple weight classes will carry separate rankings in each division. There will be no pound-for-pound ranking under the new system.
