Shara Bullet returned from an 11-month layoff to defeat Michel Pereira by decision, but the performance raised questions about his standing in the UFC. After a rough opening round, Bullet fought at distance for the remainder of the fight and came close to losing a point for hair-grabbing and an eye poke. The victory leaves him at 5-1 in the UFC, though questions remain about how the promotion will use him going forward.

Shara "Bullet" Magomedov returned from an 11-month absence to earn a decision victory over Michel Pereira, but the performance left plenty of observers unconvinced about where he stands in the UFC middleweight picture.

After struggling through a rough opening round, Bullet settled into a distance-based approach for the remainder of the contest. The win was far from clean — he came close to losing a point for hair-grabbing and an eye poke — yet he managed to secure the judges' nod and push his UFC record to five wins and one loss.

Pereira, 32, entered the fight ranked 15th in the middleweight division and brought a professional record of 32-15-0 to the cage. The Brazilian product of Overcome Academy fights out of an orthodox stance, standing six feet one inch tall with a 73-inch reach. He is an active and aggressive fighter, landing 4.46 significant strikes per minute at 51 percent accuracy, and adds a takedown threat with 1.21 attempts per 15 minutes. Despite those tools, he was unable to secure a victory on the night.

Why it matters

  • Bullet's sluggish outing raises legitimate questions about how the UFC will position him in the middleweight division going forward.
  • A narrow, drama-filled decision over a fringe-ranked opponent does little to build his case for a higher-profile matchup.
  • Pereira, already sitting at the edge of the rankings at 15th, may face pressure to string wins together to remain relevant at 185 pounds.
  • The style matchup produced a cautious, grinding contest rather than the explosive performance either fighter's reputation might have suggested.
