Russia's national team dominated the MMA World Championships, winning nine gold medals across the 20 weight classes contested. The squad also collected one silver and five bronze medals, a combined haul of 15 podium finishes.

The men's divisions were where Russia made its biggest mark, taking eight of the 12 titles on offer. Khabib Adziev won at 56.7 kg, Abdulhakim Murtuzaliev at 61.2 kg and Omarasab Yusupov at 70.3 kg. Khamzat Astamirov took the 74.8 kg title, Aydemir Guseynov won at 79.4 kg and Nukhbek Zaynulabidov claimed 83.9 kg. Ilyas Yakhyaev won at 93.0 kg, and Omar Gasaynev took the heavyweight 97.0+ kg division.

The ninth gold came on the women's side, where Darya Kuznetsova won at 47.6 kg. Polina Baldina added the team's lone silver at 65.8 kg. Bronze medals went to Ochur Byrynnay, Alim Istepanov, Magomed Omarov, Elizaveta Kovaleva and Tatyana Devyatova.

By the numbers

The medal breakdown shows how heavily the Russian team's success leaned on the men's side of the draw.

  • Men's divisions: eight golds from 12 weight classes, a title rate of about 67 percent
  • Women's divisions: one gold from eight weight classes, with the other medals coming as one silver and bronzes
  • Overall: nine golds from 20 classes, or 45 percent of all titles

Only Kuznetsova's gold at 47.6 kg and Baldina's silver at 65.8 kg are listed among the women's results in the medal tally. The rest of the team's women's podium finishes came at bronze level, so the title count there stayed thin by comparison.

Why it matters

Amateur world championships are a proving ground where national programs build depth, and a haul of 15 medals in a 20-division field points to a deep national system. Winning eight of 12 men's titles means Russia held the top step in two out of every three men's weight classes.

The champions span the whole weight range, from Adziev at 56.7 kg to Gasaynev in the open heavyweight class. That spread suggests the team was strong at both the lighter and heavier ends of the scale rather than relying on a handful of divisions.
