Following the fight, Kornilov revealed that he broke his hand in the second round, which prevented him from finishing Johnson early. Despite the injury, Kornilov was able to maintain control and secure the decision win over the full distance. The hand injury limited his offensive output in the later rounds but he did enough to win on all three judges' scorecards.
