Quick read

Carlos Ulberg strongly rejected Jiri Prochazka's statement that he showed mercy during their UFC 327 bout. Ulberg stated there was no mercy and that Prochazka knows he is a fighter, suggesting the difference between a champion and someone playing to the crowd. He believes Prochazka was motivated by fear and indecisiveness, and that Prochazka knows he is pretending. Ulberg characterized Prochazka's mercy narrative as an excuse to secure a rematch, stating there is no chance of a rematch happening. He also predicted that Magomed Ankalaev would defeat Prochazka if they fought.

Carlos Ulberg has fired back at Jiri Prochazka following their UFC 327 clash on April 11, flatly rejecting the Czech contender's claim that he showed mercy during the bout.

Prochazka, 33, had suggested after the fight that he held back at some point during the contest. Ulberg wants nothing to do with that narrative. The New Zealander stated there was no mercy shown, argued that Prochazka knows he is a genuine fighter, and drew a distinction between a true champion and someone playing to the crowd. In Ulberg's view, Prochazka was driven by fear and indecisiveness, and is now using the mercy storyline as a convenient excuse to angle for a rematch — one Ulberg says has no chance of happening.

Ulberg, nicknamed "Black Jag" and trained out of City Kickboxing, enters the aftermath of UFC 327 at 15-1-0 and ranked third in the light heavyweight division. The six-foot-four, 35-year-old hits with volume, averaging 6.54 significant strikes per minute at 55 percent accuracy.

Prochazka carries a 32-6-1 record and sits second in the division rankings. The six-foot-three Czech fighter is one of the sport's most aggressive offensive presences, landing 5.69 significant strikes per minute at the same 55 percent clip, and carries a striking style built on unorthodox timing and pressure.

Ulberg also turned his attention to the division's top-ranked contender, Magomed Ankalaev, predicting the Russian would beat Prochazka if the two were matched up. Ankalaev holds a 21-2-1 record and is currently ranked fifth pound-for-pound, bringing a more measured offensive output of 3.65 significant strikes per minute alongside a 52 percent accuracy rate and a consistent takedown threat.

Why it matters

  • Ulberg's win at UFC 327 strengthens his case as a legitimate light heavyweight title contender at rank three
  • Prochazka's mercy claim, and Ulberg's rejection of it, complicates the path to any potential rematch between the two
  • Ulberg's prediction regarding Ankalaev adds another layer to an already crowded and contested divisional picture
