Carlos Ulberg rejected Jiri Prochazka's claim that he showed mercy during their UFC 327 bout. Ulberg stated there was no mercy and that Prochazka's actions were driven by fear and indecisiveness. He accused Prochazka of playing to the crowd rather than fighting like a true champion. Ulberg dismissed any possibility of a rematch, calling it an excuse from Prochazka. He also predicted that Magomed Ankalaev would defeat Prochazka if they were to fight.

Carlos Ulberg has pushed back hard on Jiri Prochazka's post-fight narrative following their light heavyweight clash at UFC 327 on April 11, flatly denying that any mercy was shown during the bout.

Ulberg, who competes out of the renowned City Kickboxing gym in New Zealand, carries a 15-1-0 record and enters the conversation ranked third in the light heavyweight division at 35 years old. Standing six-foot-four with a 77-inch reach, the fighter nicknamed "Black Jag" is one of the division's most active strikers, landing 6.54 significant strikes per minute at 55 percent accuracy.

Prochazka, the Czech Republic's 33-year-old ranked second in the division, holds a 32-6-1 record and fights out of Jetsaam Gym Brno. The six-foot-three veteran carries an 80-inch reach and lands 5.69 significant strikes per minute, also at 55 percent accuracy. He had publicly suggested that he eased up at some point during their contest at UFC 327.

Ulberg rejected that account entirely. Rather than attributing any restraint to generosity, Ulberg described Prochazka's behavior as rooted in fear and indecisiveness, and accused him of performing for the crowd instead of competing with a true champion's mentality. When the subject of a rematch arose, Ulberg was equally dismissive, characterizing it as nothing more than an excuse on Prochazka's part.

Ulberg also weighed in on the broader divisional picture, predicting that number-one ranked Magomed Ankalaev would beat Prochazka in a potential matchup. The 34-year-old Ankalaev holds a 21-2-1 record and a top-five pound-for-pound ranking, bringing a wrestling-heavy style with 0.79 takedown attempts per 15 minutes to complement his measured striking output.

Why it matters

  • A win for Ulberg at UFC 327 would push him directly into title contention from the third spot
  • Prochazka's mercy claim, now publicly disputed, adds friction to any potential rematch negotiations
  • Ankalaev sits atop the divisional rankings, and Ulberg's prediction highlights the logjam of contenders beneath the title
