Topuria reveals he learned of Makhachev withdrawal hours before White House event announcement

Ilia Topuria disclosed details about the timeline of his cancelled fight with Islam Makhachev at the White House event. Topuria stated that just a couple of hours before the full card announcement, he was informed he would fight Makhachev and that the bout would be officially announced. However, he then received a phone call saying Makhachev had suffered an injury and he would instead face Justin Gaethje. Topuria went to sleep expecting to fight Makhachev but was awakened by numerous phone calls informing him of the change. He expressed belief that the fight with Makhachev should happen eventually.
