Azamat Bostanov, now an MMA manager, recalls covering UFC 223 eight years ago when Khabib Nurmagomedov won the lightweight title. After Bostanov interviewed Artem Lobov following the infamous altercation with Khabib, Ali Abdelaziz confronted him and told him to stay away from their team. However, Khabib intervened, putting his arm around Bostanov and telling Abdelaziz that he was "our guy" just doing his job. Bostanov also remembers 20-30 Dagestanis gathering at the hotel to protect Khabib from potential provocations from Conor McGregor's team. After the fight, despite being exhausted, Khabib spent time with fans and well-wishers, taking photos and speaking with everyone who approached him, including many strangers in his hotel room.
