Azamat Bostanov, now an MMA manager, shared memories from UFC 223 in Brooklyn eight years ago when Khabib Nurmagomedov became UFC champion. Bostanov recalled that manager Ali Abdelaziz initially told him to stay away from their team after he interviewed Artem Lobov following the notorious confrontation with Khabib, but Khabib intervened saying "This is our guy, he's just doing his job." He described how 20-30 Dagestanis gathered at the hotel ready to protect Khabib from potential provocations by Conor McGregor's team. After the victory over Al Iaquinta, despite being exhausted, Khabib spent time with crowds of well-wishers, taking photos and speaking with everyone who wanted to congratulate him. Bostanov also noted that Zabit Magomedsharipov fought on that card with two broken fingers that he didn't report to avoid being pulled from the bout. Years later, Khabib still remained humble and friendly, even stopping to offer Bostanov a ride when he spotted him on the street.
