Polish prospect Iwo Baraniewski has revealed he is in active discussions with the UFC about stepping in as a short-notice replacement for Jan Blachowicz, describing the potential opportunity as enormous while confirming his team has not yet reached a final decision.

Baraniewski, 27, carries a perfect 8-0-0 professional record and brings a striking-heavy profile to the table. The orthodox fighter stands six feet tall with a 73-inch reach and has posted a remarkable 70 percent striking accuracy alongside a striking volume of 15.77 significant strikes landed per minute. He has yet to attempt a takedown in UFC competition, making him a pure stand-and-bang proposition. This would be only his third appearance inside the octagon, making the scale of the potential assignment considerable.

The man he would be replacing, Jan Blachowicz, is a fellow Pole and one of the most decorated fighters in light heavyweight history. The 43-year-old holds a 29-11-2 record and is currently ranked fifth in the division. Standing six-foot-two with a 78-inch reach, Blachowicz averages 3.44 significant strikes per minute and has also shown a takedown threat at 1.03 attempts per 15 minutes. Baraniewski's manager is in direct talks with UFC matchmaker Mick Maynard, though Baraniewski stressed that his coaching staff plays a central role in any final call.

Adding a layer of complexity, Baraniewski is already booked to face Billy Elekana on June 6. Elekana, 31, fights out of Uprising MMA and brings a 10-2-0 record into that bout. The six-foot-three southpaw carries a 77-inch reach and lands at a 56 percent striking accuracy rate, with 2.71 significant strikes per minute.

Why it matters

  • A step-in against a ranked, experienced light heavyweight would be a massive jump in competition for a fighter only two UFC bouts deep
  • Blachowicz sits fifth in the light heavyweight rankings, meaning the bout would carry genuine divisional implications
  • Any acceptance could affect or replace Baraniewski's scheduled June 6 contest with Elekana
