Sean Strickland deliberately visited Newport Beach, California—where Khamzat Chimaev is currently training—and spent the entire day geotagging his location on social media in hopes of confronting Chimaev's team. Strickland was responding to something Chimaev allegedly said about trying to kill him on the street. "I was ten minutes from your gym. All day on social media I was leaving tags of where I am. The guys who train with you follow me and saw my stories," Strickland stated. He claimed to be the last person in America that Chimaev should be challenging in this manner, and expressed that he genuinely expected Chimaev to show up. Strickland was located just down the street from Chimaev's training facility throughout the day, but no encounter occurred.
