Bogdan Guskov has publicly suggested that the UFC has little interest in signing Azamat Murzakanov, pointing to what he described as a lack of a bright or compelling persona as the primary obstacle standing between the Russian fighter and a return to the promotion.

Guskov, nicknamed "Czarevitch," is a 33-year-old Uzbekistani light heavyweight ranked tenth in the division. Standing six-foot-three with a 76-inch reach, the GOR MMA product carries an 18-3-1 professional record and has shown a well-rounded offensive game, averaging 4.17 significant strikes per minute at 55 percent accuracy while also contributing submission attempts at a rate of 1.1 per 15 minutes.

Murzakanov, 37, is a fellow light heavyweight ranked two spots below Guskov at twelfth in the division. The Russian fighter, who trains out of K Dojo Warrior Tribe, holds a 16-1 record and goes by the nickname "The Professional." Despite his southpaw stance and an impressive striking output of 4.7 significant strikes per minute at 57 percent accuracy, Guskov's comments imply that output alone may not be enough to capture the UFC's attention.

Guskov's remarks also prompted a public poll asking whether fighters should lean into trash talk or maintain a humble approach, underscoring the broader debate his comments appear to have sparked. Neither Murzakanov nor the UFC issued a response to the claims.

Why it matters

  • Murzakanov sits at twelfth in the light heavyweight rankings, meaning a UFC booking could carry real divisional weight.
  • Guskov's comments put a spotlight on how marketability increasingly factors into promotional decisions alongside in-cage performance.
  • The style matchup between two high-output strikers in the same division adds an intriguing competitive dimension to their public exchange.
