Topuria and Makhachev dispute who turned down potential superfight

Ilia Topuria claimed he was told hours before a White House event announcement that he would fight Islam Makhachev, but was later informed Makhachev had suffered an injury and he would face Justin Gaethje instead. Topuria expressed confusion about why Makhachev doesn't want to fight him. In response, Makhachev stated he accepted the White House fight when offered, but was told the next day that Topuria requested a huge purse and was denied. Makhachev accused Topuria and his team of lying, saying even Topuria's manager confirmed the story. The exchange continued with a fan joking about the late-night posting time, to which Makhachev replied it wasn't manager Ali Abdelaziz posting.
