Ilia Topuria claimed he was told hours before the White House event announcement that he would fight Islam Makhachev, but then received a call saying Makhachev was injured and he would face Justin Gaethje instead. Topuria stated he doesn't understand why Makhachev doesn't want to fight him. Makhachev responded by saying Topuria and his team are lying, claiming he agreed to the fight but Topuria demanded a huge purse and was denied. Makhachev stated that even Topuria's manager confirmed this version of events. Additionally, Jorge Masvidal and Orion Cosce picked Sean Strickland to beat Khamzat Chimaev, with Masvidal calling Chimaev's style "sitting and smelling crotches." Dricus Du Plessis said Israel Adesanya was the most technical opponent he faced, while Strickland and Tavares were the toughest, notably excluding Chimaev.
