Islam Makhachev has repeatedly drawn attention to what he calls the "chaotic construction" problem in Dagestan, particularly in Makhachkala. The UFC lightweight champion has criticized the proliferation of low-quality apartment complexes built closely together, as well as numerous unauthorized construction projects. Seventeen days ago, during flooding in Dagestan, Makhachev called on regional leadership to address the construction issue, stating that Makhachkala has turned into one big disorganized construction site. He recently reposted content from geographer Dmitry Koryukhin, a schoolteacher in Dagestan, who shared aerial photographs highlighting the urban development problems in the capital city.
