Vadim Nemkov disclosed that kidney problems in 2022 caused severe cardio issues that affected his first fight with Corey Anderson and his sparring sessions. Nemkov would perform adequately in the first round but completely run out of energy by the second round of sparring, a pattern that continued into his spring 2022 bout with Anderson where he won the first round but had no strength in the second. After the loss, Nemkov traveled to Thailand for a training camp where the problems persisted, eventually visiting a hospital where doctors identified the cause and prescribed a standard pharmacy medication that resolved the issue. Nemkov has since eliminated all sports supplements including creatine, protein, and BCAAs from his regimen due to the kidney strain they cause, though he continues taking vitamins including omega-3, fish oil, magnesium, and B vitamins. He stated he doesn't feel worse without the supplements and that proper nutrition and sleep are the key factors.
