Islam Makhachev criticizes chaotic construction development in Dagestan

Islam Makhachev has repeatedly drawn attention to what he calls the "chaotic construction" problem plaguing Dagestan and Makhachkala specifically. The lightweight champion highlighted the issue of poorly planned development, including low-quality residential complexes built closely together and numerous unauthorized construction projects. Seventeen days ago, as flooding devastated the region, Makhachev urged regional leadership to address construction issues, stating "Makhachkala has turned into one chaotic construction site." He recently reposted content from geographer and schoolteacher Dmitry Koryukhin, who has lived in Dagestan for six years and was named Teacher of the Year in 2025. Koryukhin's post featured aerial photographs of Makhachkala showing what he described as an "urban catastrophe" of overdevelopment. The post praised Makhachev for using his platform to highlight these infrastructure and planning problems affecting his home region.
