Vadim Nemkov disclosed that kidney problems stemming from extreme weight cuts caused severe cardio issues during his first fight with Corey Anderson in spring 2022 and throughout training. Nemkov would perform well in the first round of sparring but completely run out of energy in the second, a pattern that continued in the Anderson fight where he won the first round but had no strength in the second despite understanding the technical adjustments needed. After continued struggles during a training camp in Thailand in August 2022, he consulted doctors who identified the kidney issue and found an allowed pharmaceutical solution that resolved the problem. Nemkov has since eliminated all sports supplements including creatine, protein, and BCAAs from his regimen, relying only on vitamins like omega-3, fish oil, magnesium, and vitamin B. He reports feeling no worse without supplements as long as his nutrition, sleep, and vitamin intake are properly managed.
