Vadim Nemkov disclosed that kidney problems in 2022 caused severe cardio issues that plagued his first fight with Corey Anderson. During training camp, Nemkov could only perform well for one round of sparring before completely running out of energy, a pattern that continued into the actual fight where he took the first round but faded badly in the second. After extensive medical consultations, doctors identified kidney issues stemming from large weight cuts as the root cause. A solution was found in Thailand during his camp for the rematch when doctors prescribed a standard, legal pharmaceutical medication that resolved the problem. Nemkov has since eliminated all sports supplements including creatine, protein, and BCAAs from his regimen, as they place stress on the kidneys. He now only takes vitamins including omega-3, fish oil, magnesium, and B vitamins, and reports feeling no worse without the supplements.
