Bellator light heavyweight champion Vadim Nemkov disclosed that kidney problems stemming from severe weight cuts caused the cardio issues that plagued his first fight against Corey Anderson in spring 2022. Nemkov explained he could only perform well for one round in sparring before running out of gas, with the second and third rounds becoming progressively worse. He consulted doctors and traveled to Thailand for training camp, where medical staff identified the kidney issue and found a legal, over-the-counter medication that resolved the problem. As part of his recovery, Nemkov completely eliminated sports supplements including creatine, protein, and BCAAs from his regimen, as they put additional strain on the kidneys. He now only takes vitamins including omega-3, fish oil, magnesium, and vitamin B. Nemkov stated he doesn't feel worse without supplements and that proper nutrition, sleep, and vitamins are sufficient for his performance.
