Vadim Nemkov disclosed that he suffered from kidney problems in 2022 that severely impacted his cardio, causing him to fatigue after just one round in sparring sessions. This medical issue directly affected his first fight against Corey Anderson in spring 2022, where he won the first round but had no energy in the second, unable to defend takedowns or mount offense despite understanding what he needed to do. Before his rematch in November 2022, Nemkov traveled to Thailand for a training camp in August, where the same stamina issues persisted. After consulting with doctors and visiting a hospital in Thailand, they identified the cause and found an appropriate pharmaceutical solution—a standard, legal pharmacy medication that restored his health. Nemkov has since eliminated all sports supplements including creatine, protein, and BCAAs from his regimen due to the strain they place on kidneys, now only taking vitamins including omega-3, fish oil, magnesium, and vitamin B. He noted that removing supplements did not make him feel worse, emphasizing that proper nutrition, sleep, and vitamins are most important.
