Vadim Nemkov disclosed that kidney problems in 2022 severely impacted his cardio, causing him to tire after just one round in sparring sessions and contributing to his first loss against Corey Anderson. He would perform well in the first round but run out of gas in the second and third rounds across all training. After consulting with doctors and undergoing tests, the issue wasn't initially identified, and he went into the Anderson fight with the same problem, unable to execute despite understanding what needed to be done. The cause was eventually discovered during a training camp in Thailand in August before the rematch, and he was prescribed a legal pharmaceutical medication that resolved the condition. Nemkov has since completely eliminated sports supplements from his regimen, only taking vitamins like omega-3, fish oil, magnesium, and vitamin B, as supplements place stress on the kidneys.
