Former Bellator light heavyweight champion Vadim Nemkov disclosed that kidney problems in 2022 caused severe cardio issues that affected his first fight with Corey Anderson and his training camps. Nemkov would perform well in the first round of sparring but would completely run out of gas in subsequent rounds, a pattern that continued into his bout with Anderson where he won the first round but had no energy in the second. After multiple medical consultations, doctors in Thailand identified the kidney issue and found an over-the-counter medication that resolved the problem. Nemkov revealed the kidney problems stemmed from significant weight cutting and led him to completely eliminate sports supplements like creatine, protein, and BCAAs from his regimen, now only taking vitamins including omega-3, fish oil, magnesium, and B vitamins. He noted that removing these supplements did not make him feel worse, and proper nutrition and sleep were more important.
