The lightweight champion addressed regional leadership 17 days ago during flooding in Dagestan, stating that Makhachkala has turned into one massive construction mess. Today he reposted content from geographer and teacher Dmitry Koryukhin, who compiled aerial photographs of Makhachkala showing what the post describes as an urban disaster. The images reportedly show poorly planned residential complexes built extremely close together, often 30 stories high with 1,000 apartments, despite stable or declining populations in many areas. Makhachev's repeated highlighting of this issue demonstrates his concern for infrastructure and planning problems in his home region, using his platform to bring attention to what he sees as poor development practices.
