Islam Makhachev has once again drawn attention to what he calls the "chaotic construction" problem plaguing Dagestan, particularly in Makhachkala. Seventeen days ago, as flooding devastated the region, Makhachev called on regional leadership to address construction issues, stating that "Makhachkala has turned into one chaotic construction site." Today he reposted content from geographer Dmitry Koryukhin, a schoolteacher in Dagestan who was named Teacher of the Year in 2025, showing aerial photographs of Makhachkala that illustrate what the post describes as an "urban catastrophe." The issue involves low-quality residential complexes built extremely close together, numerous unauthorized constructions, and overdevelopment despite stagnant or declining populations. The post praises Makhachev for highlighting this social problem affecting his home region.
