Eight years ago at UFC 223 in Brooklyn, when Khabib Nurmagomedov won the lightweight title, manager Ali Abdelaziz told journalist Azamat Bostanov not to approach their team. However, Nurmagomedov overruled him, putting his arm around Bostanov and telling Abdelaziz, "This is our guy, he's just doing his job." The incident occurred during the same week as the infamous confrontation between Nurmagomedov and Artem Lobov. Bostanov recalls that 20-30 Dagestanis gathered at the hotel to protect Khabib from potential provocations from Conor McGregor's team. After winning the title, Nurmagomedov spent time with a crowd of well-wishers in his hotel, many of whom he didn't know, giving attention to everyone who wanted to congratulate him.
