Bellator fighter Vadim Nemkov stated in an interview that he believes NHL star Alexander Ovechkin is currently more recognizable in America than retired UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. Nemkov reasoned that hockey is widely played by children in America, and young hockey players all know who Ovechkin is. He noted that Ovechkin gained significant fame after breaking Wayne Gretzky's record and continues to set records and remain in the spotlight. In contrast, Nemkov suggested that Khabib is no longer as well-known since he is retired and not appearing in the news as frequently. Nemkov acknowledged that both athletes would be recognized in America, but gave the edge to Ovechkin in terms of current visibility.
