Mike Tyson discussed the poor quality of food he experienced during his three-year prison sentence, describing it as all sugar and processed chemicals. Robert Kennedy Jr., who spent a summer in federal prison in 2001, noted that the federal prison system spends only 60 cents per day on inmate food. Tyson said prison food consisted mainly of donuts, chips, and sugary items, with the healthiest option being an over-salted soup. Both men discussed studies showing that improving prison food quality reduces violence by 50% in adult facilities and disciplinary incidents by 70% in juvenile facilities. Tyson attributed much of prison violence to the poor nutrition, stating that ultra-processed food makes people angrier. He also shared that his mentor Cus D'Amato taught him proper nutrition, and now he focuses heavily on his diet, favoring seafood for fat burning.
