Quick read

An infographic reveals that the UFC light heavyweight division currently has no fighters in the top 15 on winning streaks of three or more fights, excluding the champion. Even more striking, only one fighter among the entire top 15 has any winning streak at all, and that fighter is Paulo Costa, who earned one of those victories while still competing at middleweight. This stands in stark contrast to the welterweight division, which is considered the most competitive and deep division in the UFC. The post characterizes the light heavyweight division as having competition "turned inside out," highlighting a significant lack of momentum and clear contenders in the weight class.

A new infographic making rounds in MMA circles reveals a striking reality about the UFC light heavyweight division: not a single fighter inside the top 15 — excluding the champion — is currently riding a winning streak of three or more fights. In fact, only one ranked light heavyweight holds any winning streak at all.

That fighter is Paulo Costa, currently listed as the number 13 ranked middleweight, not a light heavyweight by trade. The 35-year-old Brazilian, nicknamed "The Eraser," carries a professional record of 16 wins and 4 losses and competes out of Team Borracha. Notably, at least one of the victories contributing to his current streak came while Costa was still competing at middleweight, making his presence the lone bright spot on an otherwise bleak light heavyweight leaderboard. At 185 centimeters tall with a 183-centimeter reach, Costa is a high-output striker who lands 6.26 significant strikes per minute at a 58 percent accuracy rate.

Why it matters

  • The light heavyweight top 15 has produced no sustained momentum, signaling a division lacking clear contenders to pressure any future champion.
  • Costa's streak is partially built at middleweight, underlining just how thin the winning-streak picture looks among true 205-pound regulars.
  • The welterweight division is cited by contrast as the UFC's deepest and most competitive, throwing the 205-pound class into sharper relief.
  • The absence of fighters building consecutive wins raises questions about the division's ability to generate compelling title contender narratives in the near term.
