Quick read

An infographic reveals the current state of winning streaks across UFC divisions, showing fighters in the top-15 and top-5 on three or more consecutive wins (excluding champions). The light heavyweight division stands out dramatically with zero fighters on three-fight winning streaks in the top-15. More remarkably, only one fighter in the entire top-15 has any winning streak at all: Paulo Costa, who earned one of his wins at middleweight before moving up. While the welterweight division is considered the most competitive and deep, the 205-pound division represents the opposite extreme of parity.

A recent infographic analyzing winning streaks across all UFC divisions has exposed a striking anomaly at 205 pounds: not a single light heavyweight ranked inside the top 15 is currently riding a three-fight winning streak.

The finding places the light heavyweight division at the opposite end of the competitive spectrum from welterweight, which the same data highlights as the UFC's deepest and most competitive weight class. At 205 pounds, the picture is one of unusual stagnation — losses and setbacks are distributed so widely across the ranked roster that sustained momentum has become almost impossible to build.

Even more telling is that only one fighter in the entire light heavyweight top 15 holds any winning streak at all: Paulo Costa, the Brazilian striker ranked 13th at middleweight, who carried a win earned at 185 pounds with him when he made the move up to light heavyweight. Costa, 35, carries a professional record of 16-4-0 and is one of the more aggressive output fighters in the sport, averaging 6.26 significant strikes landed per minute at a 58 percent accuracy rate. His transition to the heavier division accounts for the lone streak that registers on the 205-pound ranked board.

Why it matters

  • The complete absence of three-fight win streaks in the light heavyweight top 15 suggests the division's ranked contenders are consistently trading losses, muddying the path to a title shot.
  • Costa's inclusion relies partly on a win recorded at middleweight, underlining just how shallow the streak data is at 205 pounds.
  • The contrast with welterweight raises broader questions about matchmaking, fighter longevity, and divisional depth at light heavyweight.
  • Any fighter who can string together consecutive victories in this climate would immediately separate themselves as a legitimate title contender.
