Ilia Topuria and Islam Makhachev have provided contradictory explanations for why their White House event fight fell through. Topuria claims he went to bed knowing the fight with Makhachev was scheduled to be announced, but hours before the official announcement he received a call saying Makhachev was injured and he would fight Justin Gaethje instead. Topuria stated he doesn't understand why Makhachev doesn't want to fight him and called the situation strange. Makhachev responded that he is tired of Topuria and his team's fabrications, claiming he agreed to the White House fight when offered. According to Makhachev, the next day he was told Topuria requested a huge fee and was denied, resulting in the fight cancellation. Makhachev accused Topuria of lying and said even Topuria's manager confirmed the financial issues. In an unusual twist, when a fan commented at 4 AM asking if it was really Ali Abdelaziz posting, Makhachev replied "Today it's not him," suggesting someone else manages his account.
