Volkov, who began training in martial arts at age seven, trains out of his home city under coach Alexander Korshunov. His sparring partners include professional MMA fighter Khadis Ibragimov, as well as Denis Goltsov and Mokhnatkina. In his junior MMA championship victory, Volkov defeated 17-year-old Platon Lebedev by imposing his game through throws and ground control.
One of Volkov's training partners, Ibragimov, brings significant professional pedigree to the gym. The 31-year-old Russian orthodox fighter holds an 8-4 professional record and competes out of Sambo Piter. Standing six-foot-three at 191 cm with a 78-inch reach of 198 cm, Ibragimov lands 3.55 significant strikes per minute at 49 percent accuracy and averages nearly one takedown per 15 minutes of fight time. Training alongside that caliber of competition gives context to Volkov's rapid development.
