He trains under Alexander Korshunov and spars with Denis Goltsov, Mokhnatkin, and Khadis Ibragimov. In the final, Volkov defeated 17-year-old Platon Lebedev with takedowns and ground control.
Demid Volkov, an 18-year-old prospect from Vyritsa near St. Petersburg, claimed the Russian junior MMA championship in the 93kg division, capping a remarkable run of success for the young fighter.
In the championship final, Volkov defeated 17-year-old Platon Lebedev by imposing his grappling game, securing the victory through takedowns and sustained ground control. The win added to an already impressive resume for someone his age. Earlier this year in March, Volkov had captured the Russian combat sambo title in the 88kg category, making him a dual national champion across two disciplines before his 19th birthday.

Volkov trains under coach Alexander Korshunov and prepares alongside experienced professional fighters, including Khadis Ibragimov, Denis Goltsov, and Mokhnatkin. Ibragimov, a 31-year-old Russian professional who competes out of Sambo Piter, brings a wealth of high-level experience to those sparring sessions. The six-foot-three, 191 cm heavyweight holds a professional record of 8-4 and carries a 78-inch reach, landing strikes at a rate of 3.55 significant strikes per minute with 49 percent accuracy. Training alongside fighters of that caliber has clearly played a role in accelerating Volkov's development.
Why it matters
- Winning both a combat sambo and MMA national junior title in the same year is an uncommon achievement at 18
- Volkov's grappling-based style, demonstrated in his final win over Lebedev, mirrors the technical foundations emphasized at Sambo Piter
- Regular sparring with established professionals like Ibragimov gives Volkov competitive preparation well beyond his age group
- His trajectory places him among the more closely watched junior prospects emerging from Russia's northwest MMA scene
