Arman Tsarukyan has moved to cool speculation about a potential showdown with Charles Oliveira, clarifying that no fight between the two lightweights has been officially agreed upon.

The confusion stemmed from comments Tsarukyan made on his own YouTube channel, which were widely interpreted as a formal announcement of a September matchup. Tsarukyan pushed back on that reading, stating the UFC has not yet confirmed an opponent and that his next bout could come in September, October, December, or even sometime next year.

Tsarukyan, 29, enters this period of uncertainty as the number-one ranked lightweight contender, carrying a 23-3-0 record out of American Top Team. The Russian stands five-foot-seven with a 72-inch reach and has been one of the division's most active offensive fighters, averaging 3.85 significant strikes per minute alongside a strong wrestling presence at 3.26 takedowns per 15 minutes.

Oliveira, ranked third at lightweight and eleventh pound-for-pound, would represent a marquee opponent for any contender. The Brazilian, now 36, holds a 37-11-0 record and trains out of Chute Boxe Diego Lima. Standing five-foot-ten with a 74-inch reach, "Do Bronx" remains one of the most dangerous finishers in the sport, averaging 2.6 submission attempts per 15 minutes and landing strikes at a 54 percent accuracy clip.

Why it matters

  • A win over Oliveira would almost certainly position Tsarukyan as the mandatory challenger for the lightweight title
  • Oliveira, ranked third, needs a high-profile win to reassert himself as a title contender at 36 years old
  • The stylistic contrast is sharp: Tsarukyan's wrestling-heavy approach against Oliveira's elite submission offense would make for a compelling matchup on paper
  • For now, the bout remains unconfirmed, and the lightweight division's contender picture stays unsettled
