Former Jackson Wink general manager Mikhail Lyubimov described Aaron Pico as an exceptionally destructive sparring partner, recounting incidents in which partners left the gym with broken ribs, fractured orbital bones, and knockouts. Lyubimov said partners began avoiding Pico, prompting him to travel to other gyms, and that his relationship with fellow gym member Steve Garcia deteriorated after Pico repeatedly injured him. Pico has spent extended periods training in Morocco, where he is reportedly paid handsomely and provided world-class sparring partners, though he has recently been seen training at Cub Swanson's gym in California.
Former Jackson-Wink general manager Mikhail Lyubimov has offered a striking account of Aaron Pico's sparring intensity, describing the American prospect as one of the most destructive training partners he has encountered during his time at the renowned Albuquerque gym.

Lyubimov detailed incidents in which sparring partners left sessions with broken ribs, fractured orbital bones, and knockouts attributed to Pico. According to Lyubimov, the severity became so routine that training partners began refusing to work with Pico, eventually forcing him to travel to other gyms in search of willing partners.
Pico, now 29, carries a 14-5 professional record and trains out of Jackson-Wink. Standing five-foot-eight with a 70-inch reach, the orthodox fighter has built a reputation for aggressive, high-volume output, averaging 3.88 significant strikes landed per minute while posting a remarkable 8.96 takedown attempts per 15 minutes. That combination of striking and grappling threat may help explain why sparring partners found him particularly difficult to manage at full intensity.

One relationship that deteriorated amid the chaos was with fellow Jackson-Wink member Steve Garcia. Lyubimov said Pico repeatedly injured Garcia, who fights out of the same gym, during their shared training sessions. Garcia, a 34-year-old southpaw who stands six feet tall with a 75-inch reach, holds a 19-6 record and averages 5.39 significant strikes per minute with 49 percent accuracy — a credible sparring partner by any measure.
Lyubimov also noted that Pico has spent extended time training in Morocco, where he is reportedly well compensated and provided with high-level sparring. More recently, Pico has been seen working at the California gym associated with veteran featherweight Cub Swanson, who carries a 31-14 record across a long career.

Why it matters
- Pico's sparring reputation sheds light on why his gym situation has been unsettled despite his obvious talent
- A fractured relationship with Garcia is notable given both men share the Jackson-Wink banner
- His recent presence at Swanson's California facility suggests a potential long-term shift in his training base
