Undefeated Russian lightweight Nikita Kulshine (9-0), who trains alongside Michael Chandler at Kill Cliff FC, says Chandler avoids full sparring sessions and insists on touch-only work. Kulshine described Chandler as extremely protective of his space in the gym, often asking other pairs to clear out so he can train alone, adding that he believes Chandler is psychologically unstable.

A training partner at Kill Cliff FC has gone public with pointed claims about Michael Chandler's habits in the gym, saying the veteran lightweight avoids hard sparring and creates friction with teammates during sessions.

Nikita Kulshine, an undefeated Russian lightweight who trains alongside Chandler at Kill Cliff FC, told media that the 40-year-old American insists on touch-only contact during sparring rather than full exchanges. Kulshine also said Chandler frequently asks other fighters to clear the space around him so he can train alone, and went as far as describing Chandler as psychologically unstable.

Chandler, who holds a professional record of 23 wins and 11 losses, is one of the more decorated names in the lightweight division. Standing five-foot-eight with a 71-inch reach, the orthodox striker has built his reputation on explosive, high-volume output, landing 4.04 significant strikes per minute across his career at 49 percent accuracy. He also contributes on the ground, averaging nearly two takedown attempts per 15 minutes.

Kulshine, by contrast, enters the conversation as a 9-0 prospect still establishing himself at the top level. His perspective as a daily training partner gives his account a degree of proximity, though Chandler has not publicly responded to the characterisation.

Why it matters

  • Chandler is one of the most prominent names in the lightweight division, and questions about his training intensity carry weight given the level of competition at 155 pounds.
  • Claims of limited full-contact sparring could raise questions about his readiness for future opponents.
  • The public nature of the comments from a teammate, rather than an outside critic, makes the account harder to easily dismiss.
