Arman Tsarukyan has stated he has no intention of retiring for at least seven to eight years. He is focused on capturing the UFC lightweight title and then defending it a minimum of five times. Arman Tsarukyan has made clear he is nowhere near thinking about retirement, telling interviewers he intends to remain active in MMA for another seven to eight years and that his primary ambition is to win the UFC lightweight title and defend it at least five times.

Tsarukyan, 29, enters that pursuit as the No. 1-ranked contender in the lightweight division with a professional record of 23-3. The Russian southpaw — known as "Ahalkalakets" and based out of American Top Team — stands 170 cm tall with a 183 cm reach and has built his reputation on a well-rounded game that blends striking volume with a persistent takedown threat. He lands 3.85 significant strikes per minute at 50 percent accuracy, while also averaging 3.26 takedowns per 15 minutes, making him dangerous in every phase.

When the subject of a future weight-class move came up, Tsarukyan was direct: a drop to featherweight is far more realistic for him than a step up to welterweight. Given his dimensions and current division, that framing is straightforward.

Why it matters

  • At just 29 with a 23-3 record, Tsarukyan has the youth and ranking to pursue a lengthy title run at 155 pounds.
  • His stated goal of five defenses would place him among the most decorated lightweight champions in UFC history.
  • The featherweight comment signals he views himself as a natural lightweight or smaller, which could open a second divisional chapter later in his career.
  • As the division's top contender, any title shot granted to Tsarukyan carries immediate championship implications for the 155-pound landscape.
